Position Overview

The Restorative Counselor leads and supports the school along with the campus leadership. The position follows all safety protocols and ensures the entire building is kept safe at all times. Restorative Counselor supports all students in following positive behavior routines and supports the social & emotional well-being of students and families. Alongside the Dean of Students, this position coordinates comprehensive response to Student Code of Conduct, and implements preventative supports and interventions for students using individual, group, and classroom settings.

Job Responsibilities

Dean’s Office Responsibilities:

  • Assist Dean of Students with day to day operations of Student Support Team
  • Serve as check-in/check-out mentor for students as needed
  • Push in to classrooms to provide behavioral support
  • Monitor hallways
  • Issue referrals and communicate with families
  • Document all incident referrals
  • Attend MTSS/RTI meetings
  • Communicate with parents about weekly behavior
  • Frequently monitor additions/deductions in DeansList
  • Run reports as needed
  • Execute Restorative Justice trainings for staff
  • Complete comprehensive follow up on Code of Conduct violations with extensive restorative practices for students and staff
  • Supports school community as Dean of Students in the absence of Dean

Counselor Responsibilities:

  • Monitor, help implement, and track tier 2 and 3 data with MTSS and SST
  • Assist staff with the implementation and data collection of BRTI
  • Problem solving with Tier 2 and 3 groups
  • Counseling support for students
  • Support staff with MTW & SELweb where needed
  • Responds to SELweb and MTSS needs with class-wide, small group, or individual interventions

Family involvement:

  • Counseling and resources for parents
  • Work with family group leads (PALS and BAC) to find resources that parents may need

Requirements & Qualifications (minimum)
Education: Master’s degree in Social Work or Human Services field

Qualifications

  • K-8 grade education experience
  • One year working in urban setting
  • Three to five years of experience and expertise in Restorative Justice and Restorative Practice
  • Technology Demands
    • Proficient with cloud based software solutions ( GoogleSuite)
    • Familiar with DeansList
  • Travel to campuses within the Chicago region and home visits as needed

Physical demands
Occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; some stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling; and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally, the job requires 60% sitting, 20% walking, and 20% standing.
