Financial Analyst

Position Overview

The Financial Analyst will analyze past financial performance to predict future achievement and to advise the company on its financial strategy.

Helps develop long and short term financial goals, business strategies/plans, and financial forecasts/models for major service programs and initiatives. Manages quarterly and year-end reporting for the operating budget.

Works with minimal guidance to provide analytical support for complex budget projects. Examines past budgets and researches economic and financial developments that affect spending. Works independently to maintain and support planning and execution of financial strategy.

Responsibilities

  • Create financial models based on analysis to support organizational decision making

  • Analyze industry trends and makes recommendations based on those trends

  • Analyze budget estimates and proposals for completeness, accuracy, and conformance with established procedures, regulations, and organizational objectives. Understands key assumptions and issues

  • Develop expenditure projections and periodic budget variance reports. Prepares monthly forecasts for school leadership and provides advice on the financial impact of human resources and academic affairs decisions

  • Develop and maintain key performance indicator reports/dashboards in research, and administrative areas

  • Prepare and deploy status reports to key internal as well as external users, providing meaningful information on projects, budgets and budget variances

  • Provide consulting and advisory services to all levels of customers in the organization

  • Answer inquiries by providing data analysis and relevant information

  • Assist with financial improvement action plans and completes various financial analysis projects as needed

  • Provide training and education as needed to department employees

  • Act as a resource for team members, and solve complex problems

  • Perform other related work as needed

Requirements (minimum)
Education: Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required

Qualifications:

  • Minimum 2 years of professional experience as an accountant, auditor, financial analyst, or data analyst
  • Technology demands
    • Proficient in excel or google sheets
    • Knowledge of financial computing and database software applications (Quickbooks or Sage Intacct preferred)

Physical Demands
Occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; some climbing and balancing; some stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling; and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally, the job requires 80% sitting, 10% walking, and 10% standing
